“Children are the most precious treasure a community can possess, for in them are the promise and guarantee of the future. They
bear the seeds of the character of future society which is largely
shaped by what the adults constituting the community do or fail to do
with respect to children. They are a trust no community can neglect with impunity.”
- The Universal House of Justice, 2000 It is essential to inform and involve parents and guardians as
much as possible. After all, parents have the greatest influence over
junior youth and must also be respected. By showing your respect to them, you set an example to the junior youth.
Ideally, you should home visit the parents at home.
The booklet: 'Bahá'í Attitudes Towards Children and Young People', can be
downloaded from the bottom of this page and used as a tool for the home
visit (the instructions for assembly instructions are also downloaded from the bottom
of this page).
Although many parents are very busy and in some
cases will not express that much interest in their children's
activities, it is still important to clearly explain the purpose of the
junior youth group and the Bahá'í Faith to prevent any misunderstandings
and future difficulties. If a home visit is not possible, the
literature for the group should explain this.
Presentation evenings following the completion of a
junior youth book can provide a good opportunity to invite parents to
see what their child has been involved with and learnt. This can
include the arts (by the junior youth), the giving of certificates, and
refershments.
